FOREST SCHOOL CLASS

Hi All and Snape Superstars,
Welcome to Forest School with Kinna!

Happy New Year, 2021.
It's the start of lockdown 3, let's hope it's the last (anyone ever noticed things seem to happen in 3s!?)

I'll be putting up blog posts every week with fun tasks for you to try, things to think about and adventures to have along with news from forest school and the garden.

But what have we learned so far and what can we remember from our forest school values to help everyone through this difficult time?
- You all adapted so brilliantly and instantly each time with last years up's and downs, we can do so again.
- Remember this lockdown is happening for a reason, we're all doing our part in this to keep people safe from the virus and reduce the spread so that the stretched NHS hosptials and staff, which we're so grateful for, can begin to cope again.
- Rather than a lockdown I prefer to think of it as a hibernation, in keeping with this winter season. Hunkering down and being cosy with our families is what nature asks of us at this time of year, maybe we can even begin to see it as a gift that we can for once fully embrace what the season is asking of us - to slow down, take stock, be still and find peace in our hearts. We have this unusual extended learning holiday at home, and despite the hard parts of it, we might as well try to make the best of every day and be grateful for the little every day simple things we enjoy each day. Doing so will help us to feel better and get through it no matter how hard.
- It's hard for everyone, often for different reasons in different ways, so we can remember our forest school community spirit. Inclusively, we can respect everyones different feelings and thoughts about the situation. We are stronger together.
- Snape Primary has led the way in community spirit with the village larder and all helping each other out through the other lockdowns, you all did so well. But in the midst of winter, when it's all become tyring, hungry or cold, it's even more important than ever to remember these values and strengths and support each other.
- I'm always here for all of you, as is mother nature. Ask for help when you need it. Take time to be in nature every day, I can't stress how important this is for everyone's wellbeing. In gardens, on family walks, when you need some space from frustration or boredom get some air, look at the sky, find a sit-spot, count how many birds can you see and hear, can you trace their beautiful songs to identify which bird sings that tune, how many trees can you identify, what can you smell, how does the wind feel on your face? How fast can you run down a hill? What can you learn from the wildlife? Share your stories with us, we'd love to hear.
- Remember that genius idea that one of the Starlings group came up with; "if you want to hug someone and you can't, or you just need a hug yourself, simply hug a tree, they are magic."

Stay positive, stay safe, stay well and the best thing you can all do for your immune systems and beautiful beings is get gardening and play outside in the fresh air :-) it'll help with the concentration needed for home schooling as well as with the cabin fever too! :-)

Send me your projects, adventures and experiences in the comments on the blog posts. As much as you can! I'd love to hear. All the best and you know what the extra good news is!? Spring is just around the corner and you'll be back before you know it. Make the most of every day and count your blessings.
X Kinna and Strawberry Bear.
