I was so impressed by the Village Larder set up at school. What a blessing it has been for so many. It's lovely to see one of your most important forest school values in action looking after the whole community, what a brilliant idea, well done Snape Superstars and brilliant teachers!!!
I was lucky enough to find some good supplies the day before, so was able to bring some handy things like nappies, wipes and soap to the larder. Loved the rhubarb left at the gate! I love exchanging, in a big garden I used to look after I'd swap apples for cheese from the local posh cheese shop. It was much more fun and rewarding than exchanging money :-) Strawberry Bear and I got to work straight away to harvest some of your wonderful salads which thankfully were being kept safe under the net. Thank goodness for the net because do you remember the hungry bunnies had eaten all our spinach the week before!!!?!!! We picked the gourmet red mustard leaves (which I know some of you find a bit spicey, but if you do you can also fry or wilt them with olive oil and garlic, then they're a bit milder and also an excellent immune booster! Your parents might like them in a curry or you can use them instead of spinach. Their spicy kick is excellent to wake you up and get your circulation going!) The tiny purselane leaves were so sweet, mild and delicious! My favourite! We picked a whole box and I wonder if anything will have grown back yet for week 2!? Thankyou to everyone donating to the wonderful village larder, what a haven of love and support it is for all. Anyone can bring extra things to donate between 11 and 12 each weekday and anyone can take what they need for free. It doesn't matter who you are or what you have, if you've got no money or you just simply can't get hold of something you need, come and help yourself! (All safe distancing and safety measures adhered to of course). It's a shame we'd just taken out the last of the rainbow chard the week before to make way for potatoes, but wonderful to have a few little bits to harvest and thank goodness you were all able to sow some seeds and do a little planting before you left. Now you can do that at home! Well done growing your winter greens all <3 Strawberry bear did such a great job helping me that I gave him the star grower badge which he was chuffed about :-)
