Hi Superstars!
How are you all doing!?! Hope you've seen my two posts below for this week and that you have a wonderful imaginative time creating your own snow art for my competition. Did you also see the music video I put up? How many of the animals and plants were you able to name!? Can't wait to work out who the winners are :-) Remember last week I talked about the festival of Imbolc and set a task to see what YOU find is special in nature at this time of year? What did you feel was worth celebrating and your favourite things? Thought I'd share what the kids in school thought about it all. Starlings class decided unanimously that they'd celebrate their own invention of TICKLEBERRY TIME!!! You'd better all have a go and forage for some Ivy berries, that's what this lot did and decided it makes the best game for ... you guessed it ... tickling! There was lots of laughter, see if you think Ivy berries are good for tickling too!? It was all their idea while playing in the dens and the bushes. Here they all are at the story circle holding up their baskets of foraged tickleberries. You'll never guess what they did next as part of their Tickleberry Time festival ... they mashed them all up in the logs with sticks and then left offerings of them for the faries and unicorns to come and eat them! Astrid was certiain unicorns will love them too, so we're looking forward to seeing this week if their concoctions and potions have been eaten up! We also ALL decided that the birds were REALLY worth celebrating at this time of year, we'd actually never heard and seen so many birds at forest school, it was beautiful and amazing! In the first picture you can see Starlings class with peace and tranquility on their faces as they enjoyed some forest bathing and listened to the birds, it was BEAUTIFUL! We filled up the bird feeders for the cold weather and even spotted a pair of bluetits scouting out our birdbox, horray! We're sure they might make a nest in there as we saw them so many times. We also enjoyed an adventure walk out the back gate to see what was happening in nature around us at this time of year, we spotted some snowdrops and the kids picked them for the teachers. Did you pick some for your mums!? Hope so :-) They had LOTS of fun jumping in muddy puddles too. Class 2 all deserve a medal because they made a promise to dig over the veg garden before half term and they've so valiantly kept their promise every week. I could not be prouder of their determination to keep their promise and for their hard work. They are getting really quite professional at it! So professional in fact that I think they'd all be able to get a job as gardeners one day and grow their own food if they wanted, an essential life skill! :-) It's been amazing seeing everyones skills and confidence improve each year. Have you all started planning your gardens at home, bought some seeds or started any digging!? Now is the perfect time to think of what you'd like to grow. Please send me your lists of what you'd like to grow in the school garden! Lots of wonderful worms have been found, fertility in our soil is improving but we still need more compost and manure by the boot load if anyone can drop some by the gate for us!? We'd be so SOOOOO grateful! X

Prize for the best snow art!!! It can be anything from a standard snowman to something simple to something extraordinary! The sky and your imagination is the limit :-) Post a picture & info below. Here's some inspiration - what do you think of it? Tell me your best snow adventures too, I'd love to hear. Hope you've all been feeding the birds :-) Enjoy the snow & have lots of fun of course! X Kinna Hi Superstars! I cannot WAIT to see and hear all about your adventures outside in the snow! What a treat this magical powdery snow is that has arrived from the Arctic. I've got icicles hanging from my window and the forest is covered in a fairyland blanket of white, fluffy, soft, marshmallow cloud which makes it feel like another world entirely! How would you describe it? How does it make you feel!? Have you looked very closely at the beautiful snowflakes!? Just like us, every snowflake has its own individual pattern and shape, isn't that incredible when you think of how much snow there is! Mindblowing. Please send me your pictures and stories of your snowy adventures. When you come in from the cold, here's a wonderful video to enjoy. Ask permission to put the volume up nice and loud as it has some really fun music. Who can list and name as many animals/plants/elements in nature as possible!? Prize for the longest list and extra points for proper names eg pink flower would get a point, but marshmallow would get an extra point! Or snake would get 1 point but type of snake would get an extra! Maybe your family might enjoy helping. I think the plant in the first picture eating the fly might be called a Sundew!? You'll notice that LOTS but not all of these wonderful things we get in this country. How many have you seen at forest school!? Which ones don't we get here in the UK? Hope you're having lots of fun! :-) X Kinna. We are celebrating being mid-way between the longest night / shortest day of winter solstice and spring equinox / when it is equal day and night. Have you noticed how it's getting lighter all the time!? The birds are singing more, the earth is warming up and bulbs are sprouting their pretty heads?! Spring is starting to be in the air which is so SO exciting! Time to get outside, what birds can you spot & hear, start planning your gardens!!! Start digging, adding compost & manure, write a list of what you'll grow, order the seeds and be excited about the growing season ahead! Plant broad bean seeds. Send me pictures and plans and lists for your gardens. Happy Imbolc! 🤗 On Tuesday it was the celebration of Imbolc, which literally means 'in the belly,' it is the mid point between winter solstice & spring equinox, for some it marks the end of winter, for others the start of spring, for me it feels like the first tiny sprouts on seed of potential in the start of a new year 💘 There are pregnancies for wildlife and sproutings of flora to celebrate. In a sense there is no right or wrong with meaning, more important is developing your own relationship with nature and feeling what does it mean to you!? Can you make a poster, bit of writing or drawing of what you'd like to celebrate? You could go for a lovely long walk in the forest first, the sun is shining, the moon is out, the sky is blue! Birds are tweeting, what can you hear? On Tuesday / Imbolc, as I drove through misty fields, with the sun breaking through clouds & spreading blue, it felt like the earth was breathing out beautiful warmth. While we may still have much coldness ahead I could feel the first gatherings of earths warmth. The birds were bursting with sweet joy and mama nature is waking up with adornments of snow drops, aconites and catkins 🧡💛💚💙💜
